Murasaki Kobudo was founded by Sensei Perry who began his fighting career in 1946 as an amateur boxer in Charlotte, N.C. at age of nine. During his boxing career he participated in 147 bouts in the Golden Glove, AAU, and the marine corps. He won state, regional and national titles and officially retired from the ring in 1959.

Sensei Perry started his martial arts training in September 1956 at Parris Island. Since that time has had the opportunity to train under Hanshi Tatsuo Shimabuku in Ishinryu Karate-Do at the old Agena dojo in Okinawa. He studied with Kyoshi Bill Hayes of Shobayashi Ryu, one of Hanshi Eizo Shimabukuro's senior students.

In 1997, Sensei Perry received the rank of Hachidan from Hanshi Nakazato and was appointed to represent the Shorinryu Shorinkan Kyokai in North America. Sensei Perry has studied how size, weight and material affects the precision, speed and accuracy of a weapon. With the help of other studied experts Sensei Perry has made available these precision hand crafted weapons to you.

AAU has recognized the craftsmanship and authenticity of these weapons to the extent that the Murasaki Kobudo weapon is the only AAU certified weapon.

The manufacturing process has been handed down to Sensei Gordon Shell under vigerous training by Sensei Perry to ensure that the processes stay true to the design.

"I wanted these weapons to become more available through someone who has a love for karate not for the purpose of income"
